Speaking of the inspiration for Snoopy, the first thought that comes to one’s mind is a Beagle. These dogs are very popular and their cute, silly look easily draw the sympathy of owners to take them home. But the truth is that those who actually take up the challenge of Beagle-dogging most times find themselves puzzled by certain characters of theirs. What are these characters? What makes some owners reveal their disappointment with the decision of Beagle parenting?
1. Advantages
Beagles are often chosen as laboratory dogs, among other reasons, because they have a good physical constitution. In everyday care, if feeding is done properly with a scientific approach and leftover food avoided, these dogs will hardly get sick. Compared to other dog breeds, their longevity is quite above average, as they generally live up to 12-15 years.
Besides their physical robustness, Beagles have attractive characters. They are lively and are more or less eager to establish a bond with a human being. They do not show excessive suspicion to strangers and so, they can easily make new friends with other people whom they meet by virtue of their gentleness.
2. Drawbacks
Beagles are of a small size but have as much energy as a Husky and this is why they are often called. They need to be taken for a walk or played with outside at least two hours a day to let off their energy properly. If this is not the case, they turn to destructive behaviors at home and in such situations, they sometimes go beyond what owners expect, which in turn is one of the reasons that lead to owners feeling irritated and regretful. In terms of training, it is also quite difficult to deal with Beagles. They are not very clever but they do have some intelligence. At times they can be very stubborn and do things their own way even if it is against the instructions that come from their owner. To make them more agreeable to the training, the suitable methods and techniques should be used, patience and small treats should be employed as a strategy to get their attention and to increase their willingness to cooperation during training sessions.
